Services
Clear services with written deliverables
Four core services. Each has a written scope, a tailored quote and a commitment of my own.
Code diagnostic
I tell you whether your simulation code is right, fast enough and maintainable, and what to fix first.
Who it is for
R&D teams running an in-house code, a research code or user modules in commercial software; small simulation software vendors.
The problem
A critical code that depends on one or two people, has never been verified and slows decisions down.
What you get
- A detailed report, adapted to your code and to your questions
- Prioritised recommendations, with the effort each one requires
Custom solver or module
When your code cannot model your physics, whether it is commercial software (Abaqus, Ansys, COMSOL…) or your in-house code, I build the missing solver or module and leave you code your team can maintain.
Who it is for
R&D in instrumentation, medical devices and energy; deep-tech start-ups.
The problem
The phenomenon that matters for your product is missing from your commercial software or in-house code: a specific coupling, a material law, an inverse problem, or a computation to embed in a product.
What you get
- A working simulation code in the programming language of your choice, inside your own code base, or a module for your commercial software: Abaqus material model or user element (UMAT, VUMAT, UEL), Ansys Fluent user-defined function (UDF), COMSOL model
- Verification tests showing that the code solves its equations correctly
- A comparison with experimental data that you provide
- Documentation and a handover to your team
Verification and validation
I deliver quantified, reproducible proof that your code solves its equations correctly, in the format your customer or regulator expects.
Who it is for
Simulation software vendors, owners of in-house codes or user modules (UMAT, UDF…); medical device and nuclear teams, together with their regulatory partners.
The problem
You have no code or calculation verification evidence, yet a customer, an auditor or a regulator asks for it.
What you get
- A suite of manufactured-solution test cases running in your continuous integration
- A report comparing observed and theoretical convergence orders
- For a regulatory file: a gap review of your simulation evidence against the applicable credibility standards, with a costed plan for the missing pieces
- The scripts that reproduce every result
Code modernisation and industrialisation
From a research prototype or a legacy code to a modern tool, parallelised on CPU and GPU, that your team can use, test and extend, with proof that it gives the same results.
Who it is for
Owners of legacy codes (Fortran, C) that nobody dares to touch, or of Python or MATLAB prototypes that have become too slow; R&D teams at the end of a collaborative project; spin-offs; labs working under industrial contracts.
The problem
An untested code, too slow, ill-suited to current hardware, that only its author understands.
What you get
- A structured, installable package
- Tests and continuous integration
- CPU and GPU parallelisation (MPI, OpenMP, OpenACC) or a move to a modern language (C++ or Python), if needed
- A non-regression suite comparing the modernised code with the original
- User and developer documentation, and a handover to your team
On request
Smaller or more specialised work
On quote, often after a diagnostic.
Second opinion on a simulation
A reasoned opinion on how far a simulation can be trusted: convergence, assumptions, likely errors.
Performance and parallelisation
CPU and GPU parallelisation (MPI, OpenMP, OpenACC), choice of the solvers and preconditioners suited to your problem, profiling, scaling.
Fractional numerical expert
Two days a month for a start-up that needs senior numerical judgement but cannot hire yet.
AI and surrogate models
Where does your AI model trained on simulations go wrong? Reference computations with controlled error, and an audit of its validity domain.
A specific request?
Every project is different. If your need does not fit any of these services, describe it to me and I will tell you frankly whether I can help.
Let’s talk about your code.
A free 30-minute diagnostic is enough to see whether I can help, and at what price.
